Backpack finally launched.
If you wondered what the Web 2.0 will look like then just go ahead and check it out. It arrived at long last. Mad props to the 37signals team for unparalleled excellence.
Make sure to watch the movies about pages and reminders. Personally my favorite feature is that every page has an email address and you can just fill them up with your forward button. This is just the right amount of convenience for me to keep using a product.

If that’s what web 2.0 looks like then I better stay off the web till 5.0 or so. ;-)

looks good

John: what problems do you have with backpack? i think it is very well-designed and runs very well.
Anonymous 06 May 20:13
Matt: My guess is John is hinting that Backpack could use a new theme. It’s awfully plain, which some might count as a positive, and some as a negative.
Matt Moriarity 07 May 03:18
Ahhh.
KirinDave 07 May 20:22
I thought plain websites were all the rage these days.
chris 09 May 06:09
KririnDave: yeah, but that’s in the Web 1.0 ;)
I really like backpack, it’s a very cool and useful piece of technique.

ajaxlol! <3
Matt Moriarity 09 May 13:06
Boy, people are really addicted to the Ajax in Typo.
anonymous 09 May 13:29
Matt: I think there are just a lot of people out there who want to see it in action—which is understandable.

I wish those movies weren’t in this damned mov/quicktime format (which nearly noone has installed, if he doesn’t work on a mac). There are nice tools which generate flash movies. That would be much better…
tobi 10 May 09:29
heh, as a matter of fact, pixar conducted a study to figure out which is the most commonly available movie format and .mov came out top

gfggdgg
chris 10 May 13:02
It is quite addictive, seeing those comments appear!
Curt Hibbs 10 May 14:25
On the pixar study…
The fact that .mov was the “most commonly available movie format” could easily be a reflection of the fact that its been around the longest (at least in a form usable by mere mortal users).
The real question (that this leaves unanswered) is what format is the most playable,in terms of the number of machines on which it will play out-of-the-box (i.e., no additional software need be installed).
John 10 May 19:55
> what format is the most playable,in terms of the number of machines on which it will play out-of-the-box
But what format is most playable on all systems? Availability is more important than accessability.
Sam 11 May 05:03
me too, comment?
alchemist 11 May 05:48
what does this suppose to be?
Sam Goldman 11 May 23:50
What if someone comments when I’m reading the comments, then I comment? Will AJAX hide their comment until I do a page reload?
tobi 12 May 01:35
Currently yes; I figured out a way around this already. Future typo versions will display new posts as well
Matt Moriarity 12 May 14:49
do share
tumi 13 May 16:06
I have a boner.
Casey Gollan 14 May 18:10
Backpack is terrific. I’m finding it really useful.
rasputnik 16 May 07:40
Is it me, or did the ‘online applications’ bulldada from the mid 90s recently come true?
There’s a lot of Good Stuff out there now (plus I’m less likely to leave the Internet at home than I am my PDA)...
chris 17 May 04:25
blaat! :)
